But is it the right move for enthusiast s?
no, but then again, enthusiasts don’t really matter.

I know I’m not alone in this community, but I hate the idea of living in a world where owning a car doesn’t make sense.
altho that mind set will take a long time to reach rural areas where I live. We don’t even have a real taxi service here, and buses are viewed as something for the homeless elderly.
as far as the lose of the low sedan goes, well. that idea didn’ t exist until the 1950' s and was born out of style not substance . Honestly it should be surprising that it took 70 years for it too die. before the 50s cars looked like more something we’d call an SUV now. 7-8 inches off the ground, lots of headroom, and no real trunk to speak of.

Those areas will have car owners. We can never be car free because of our geography and interest.
However, city folks and those in more urban areas, they can live without a car.

I think Doug makes a great point. This is a business decision for the automakers and they have much more money to put into the hypotheticals of this than your average internet jockey.
I will say that with SUV’s being more expensive than the same sized car, how are automakers going to bring people in at the low end? How are you going to get a first time car buyer to buy something new when all you have is SUV’s that are 3k (or more) more expensive than the comparable car? In that sense I feel like the American brands are being a little short sighted. Sure GM will retain the Spark and Soinc but they are long in the tooth. Ford seems just screwed since they will soon give up an entire price bracket.
